The ones we were replacing were similar in structure to these but had carpet everywhere and every day we had to pick up remnants of the carpet and now they were scratching down to the wood underneath it.

So these have sisal rope and I decided to try these. They are not as sturdy and it was an adjustment that they have to scratch the rope vs. the side of the condo. The one thing that would make this a much better condo is to put an entry hole from the second "floor" of the condo to the top floor of the condo. The other condos had it and it is easier for a cat to jump to the second floor and then enter through the hole to the top floor. Now they have to jump from floor to the top. They are still able to do it, but they are 11 years old now. I would not buy them for any older cats.
